最近、DCコミックスの世界は5年に1回ほどの割合で世界観の設定変更を行っています。2016年から始まったのがRebirth期、Rebirth期の設定を踏襲しつつ2021年から始まったのがInfinite Frontier期です。
今回読んだWonder Woman (2016-) Vol 1: AfterworldsはInfinite Frontier期 Wonder Woman誌の第一巻ということになります。
Rebirth期の終わりに描かれたDark Nights: Death Metal (感想はこちら)では、世界を消滅から救うためにWonder Woman (ワンダーウーマン、ダイアナ)が戦う姿が描かれました。その結果として世界は救われましたがダイアナは姿を消し、死んだと思われました。
実際にはダイアナはいわゆる「死」を迎えたわけではなく、死後の世界でもまた頑張っていたのでした――というのがこの巻で物語られているお話になります。
